Daniil Medvedev eased past defending champion Jack Draper 6-1, 7-5 at the BNP Paribas Open on Thursday, sending the No. 11 seed into the semifinals for the fourth consecutive year.
In pursuit of his first Indian Wells trophy, Medvedev arrived in California after winning in Dubai and is now on an eight-match winning streak. The 30-year-old has won 16 straight sets since losing to rival Stefanos Tsitsipas at the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam.
“The first set was unreal, I couldn’t miss a single shot,” Medvedev said in an on-court interview. “It’s an unbelievable level. In the second set, he tried to give everything he had and he had chances. I had a draw and I should have done better but it happened. Overall, I’m very happy with the way I’m playing right now and I’m looking forward to it.”

Medvedev needed just 24 minutes to finish the first set and Draper looked exhausted, with the Englishman still feeling the effects of Wednesday’s thrilling two-hour, 35-minute victory against five-time champion Novak Djokovic.
With Medvedev’s signature court coverage on full display, the 23-time tour-level champion delivered a particularly precise flat backhand shot into Draper’s forehand corner. Draper grabbed the only break point in the second set with a 3-2 lead, but his chance was wiped out by an ace from Medvedev. The former world number one then hit two aces to end the serve beautifully.
Medvedev got a key break at 5-5 in the second set, but Draper was blocked in the second point. After a video review, referee Aurelie Tourte awarded Medvedev a point.
To reach the final, Medvedev needs to defeat a former champion: two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz or Cameron Norrie, who won the ATP Masters 1000 event in 2021. If Medvedev advances to the championship, he will return to the top 10 of the PIF ATP rankings for the first time since July.
Medvedev leads the ATP Tour with 17 wins this season. He is the fourth player to reach the Indian Wells semifinals in four consecutive years, joining Rafael Nadal (2006-13), Djokovic (2011-16) and Alcaraz (2022-25).
