Arthur Lindeknych and Valentin Vaccello continued their doubles run at the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday, beating singles stars Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(4), 7-5 in the second round.

Two days after beating another singles standout team in Daniil Medvedev and learner Tian En in the first round, the pair returned with the same intentions, defeating Djokovic and former PIF ATP No. 3 Tsitsipas.

In this narrow game, Lindekneci and Vaccello showed great composure. They saved three set points on serve at 5-6 in the first set, and won four consecutive games in the second set after falling behind 3-5. According to Infosys ATP statistics, the pair blasted 11 aces and saved four of the five break points they saved en route to a victory that lasted one hour and 42 minutes.

The cousins will face Karen Khachanov and Andrei Rublev – the only remaining pair of singles stars – in the quarterfinals. Khachanov and Rublev defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime and Sebastian Korda 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-5.

Djokovic and Tsitsipas comprehensively defeated defending champions Marcelo Arevalo and Matt Pavic in 53 minutes in the first round. But they couldn’t keep running. Five-time tournament champion Djokovic will now aim to continue his singles journey on Wednesday when he takes on Jack Draper in the fourth round. Tsitsipas lost to Denis Shapovalov in the first round.

In other doubles second-round matches, top seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos defeated French players Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Rebour 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Fourth seeds Christian Harrison/Neil Skupsky also defeated Orlando Lutz/Raphael Matos 6-3, 6-4 to advance. They will face Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard in the quarterfinals, who defeated seventh seeds Francisco Cabral and Lucas Midler 6-4, 6-4.
