Yannick Hanfman has reached his first ATP Tour final in six years and is now just one win away from his first title.
The German defeated top seed Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals of the BCI Seguros Chile Open on Saturday to advance to the championship match. Before this week, Hanfmann had not reached a final since losing to Miomir Kekmanović in Kitzbühel in September 2020.
“I thought from the first point to the last point, I played really well,” Hanfman said. “I must [do that] against him. He’s a great player and I knew I had to have “a good game” today. I’m really really happy. “
Cerundolo won the title in Buenos Aires two weeks ago and didn’t drop a set in the semifinals in Santiago. However, he was unable to cope with the German, who hit the ball cleanly and dominated the match after serving.
According to Infosys ATP statistics, Hanfman won 79% (27/34) of his first serve points and took advantage of Cerundolo’s 27 unforced errors. He also saved two break points he faced, including making a key save on serve at 5-4 in the second set.
“It’s normal to be a little nervous going into a final,” the German said. “But at the end of the day, I believe in my strokes and my ability to stay in the match, even on break points.”
The 34-year-old will seek his first ATP Tour title when he faces second seed Luciano Darderi in Sunday’s title match.
In the second semi-final of the day, Dudley performed well and defeated 2024 champion Sebastian Baez 6-4, 6-3 in 1 hour and 29 minutes. The Italian has now won all three matches of the 2026 Lexus ATP Showdown.
“Sebastian is a tough opponent,” Dudley said. “We’ve played three times this year. He’s a great player on clay. He’s won over six or seven championships. So it’s always a tough match against him.”
Dadri, who reached the championship game in Buenos Aires, will play in his second final of the season and his sixth on Sunday. The Italian leads Hanfmann 1-0 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head series. Their only meeting was in the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 event in Córdoba, where Dadri won in straight sets.
