Ignacio Buse added another unforgettable moment at the 2026 Rio Open presented by Claro on Friday.

One day after defeating third seed and home favorite Joao Fonseca, the 21-year-old defeated former PIF ATP No. 6 Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 clay court event.

With this victory, the Peruvian advances to the semi-finals of Tour level for the second time, where he will face either Thiago Agustin Tirant or Alejandro Tabilo.

Elsewhere in the quarter-finals, eighth seed Thomas Martin Echeverry earned a landmark victory. The 26-year-old defeated lucky loser Jaime Faria 7-6(4), 6-4 for his 100th tour-level victory. The Argentine saved all five break points he faced in the first set.

In the semi-finals, Echeverri will face Vit Kopriva, who easily defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-4, 6-4 in which he did not face a break point. By defeating Cerundolo, Kopriva reached his second tour-level semifinal, five years after reaching his first ATP Tour semifinal in Gstaad in 2021.
