Qatar Open: Jannik Sinner wins first match since Australian Open

World No. 2 Janik Sinner easily wins in first match since losing to Novak Djokovic Australian Open semi-finals.

The Italian defeated Czech Tomas Machak in straight sets at the Qatar Open in Doha on Monday.

Sinner won 6-1 6-4, wrapping up the first set in 27 minutes and later being interviewed by former England footballer Rio Ferdinand.

Sinner will face Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in the last 16, with the world number 53 beating local favorite Mubarak Shannan Zayed 6-0 6-2.

Sixth seed Jakub Mensik came from behind to defeat British player Jan Choinski and also advanced to the top 16.

After losing to the world No. 124 Czech player in the first set tie-break, the Czech No. 1 player won 6-7 (6-8) 6-2 6-4.
