Jack Pinnington Jones reaches first ATP Tour quarterfinals at Dallas Open

Britain’s Jack Pinnington Jones continued his impressive run at the Dallas Open by reaching the ATP Tour quarter-finals for the first time.

The 22-year-old, who had to go through two rounds of qualifying before entering the main draw of the tournament, beat Italian world number 20 Flavio Coboli before beating American Elliott Spisilli to reach the quarter-finals.

Pinnington Jones, ranked 181st in the world, defeated Spitzri, ranked 68th in the world, in three sets, winning 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 7-6 (7-4).

He will face former U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic on Friday for a spot in the semifinals.

Pinnington Jones completed his junior season at Texas Christian University in May, but chose not to return for a final year in order to pursue a full-time tennis career.

After losing his first qualifying match at the Australian Open in January, Pinnington-Jones reached the final at the Soma Bay Challenge in Egypt and then began a four-match winning streak in Dallas.

After entering the quarter-finals, his world ranking will rise 43 places to 138th, and if he defeats Cilic, he will likely enter the top 110.

Elsewhere, Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina and top seed Iga Swiatek both suffered heavy defeats at the Qatar Open.

World No. 3 Rybakina lost to Canadian Victoria Mboko 7-5 4-6 6-4, while Swiatek won the first set but lost to Maria Sakkari 2-6 6-4 7-5.
