Qatar Open: Emma Raducanu retires in first round two days after losing in Transylvania Open final

Emma Raducanu withdrew from her Qatar Open first-round match against Camila Osorio, two days after losing the Transylvania Open final.

The British top star was broken at the start of the third set, asked her coach to go out to have her blood pressure checked, and abandoned the match after trailing 2-0 in the decider to Colombia’s Osorio.

Raducanu won the first set 6-2 before losing the second set 6-4.

The 23-year-old reached the final for the first time since winning the 2021 US Open on Saturday, but was beaten by Sorana Cirstea in just over an hour at the Transylvania Open.

Raducanu also had her blood pressure checked during that game and later revealed that her health had been affected as she was “battling a chest infection.”

Raducanu started the match strongly against Osario, taking a 3-0 lead before sealing the first set 6-2.

Osario showed signs of a comeback late in the first set, and she continued to recover in the second set, breaking serve for the first time to lead 3-2.

Osario forced Raducanu into errors and when the Englishman hit a long forehand, she ended the second set 6-4.

After saving two break points at the start of the decider, Raducanu was broken again as she cautiously failed to chase down a lob before shouting to her coach.

Raducanu briefly returned to the game, but after Osario consolidated her breakaway, the Briton rushed to the net to inform the referee that she was withdrawing from the match.

Raducanu has been plagued by injuries and has struggled to maintain consistency on the WTA Tour since her historic win at the U.S. Open.

In October, Raducanu withdrew from the first round of the Wuhan Open after having his blood pressure and temperature checked by a doctor.

In January, she split from new coach Frances Roeg after her second-round exit at the Australian Open.

Spaniard Roig, who has been working with her since the summer of 2025, is the ninth person to coach Raducano since 2021.
