Home wild card players James McCabe/Li Tu defeated top seeds Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool 7-6(5), 6-4 in the second round of the Australian Open on Friday.
The British pair, who last year won the year-end ATP doubles No. 1 ranking from the PIF, were one of four seeded teams to withdraw from the men’s doubles tournament on Friday.
Sixth seeds Christian Harrison/Neil Skupski, who formed a new partnership at the beginning of the season, defeated Pedro Martinez/Jaume Munar 6-3, 6-2 and safely advanced to the third round. Americans Robert Cash and JJ Tracy also advanced, defeating Marcelo Demolina and Jean-Julien Roger 7-5, 6-2.

Singles stars Taron Grikspur and Botik van der Zandschulp defeated Matthew Ebden and Rajiv Ram 6-3, 6-3 and will next face Harrison and Skupski. Van de Zande Schulp will continue his singles challenge against Novak Djokovic on Saturday, with their Lexus ATP Head2Head series tied at 1-1.
