Two-time defending champion Janik Sinner begins his quest for a third consecutive title at the Australian Open on Tuesday. The second-seeded Italian will take on French southpaw Hugo Gaston in an evening matchup at Rod Laver Arena, scheduled for 7pm EDT/3am ET.

Sinner, ranked second in the PIF ATP Rankings, leads Gaston 2-0 in the Lexus ATP Head2Head Series, with the previous two meetings taking place in 2021. Sinner has a 22-4 record in her first major of the season, according to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index. He has not lost in Melbourne since losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth round in 2023.

Last year’s semifinalist Ben Shelton, who lost to Sinner in the Final Four, is also on Tuesday’s schedule. Americans met Ugo Humbert for the first time. Fifth seed Lorenzo Musetti and 2023 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas are scheduled to play at Margaret Court Arena.
