World No. 45 Sebastian Baez led Argentina to a 1-0 lead over Spain on day one of the Fed Cup in Perth.
The 24-year-old made his debut in the mixed team event, defeating Jaume Munar 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 43 minutes.
With the win, Baez earned his first top-50 victory since defeating then-No. 46 Mariano Navone won the title in Rio de Janeiro last February.
