Djokovic, Draper or Shelton: Who can challenge Alcaraz and Sinner in 2026?

With serves reaching 150 mph and a variety of foul language on the court, Shelton has declared himself a 2023 New York semifinalist.

The left-handed American reached another Grand Slam semifinal this year in Melbourne, but lost against Sinner.

His progress in the next two majors was blocked by Alcaraz at Roland Garros and by Sinner at Wimbledon.

“I think if the next guy wants to be in it, he’s got to have a huge ego, so it could be someone like Shelton,” Mouratoglou said.

“He has to improve, but I think he has enough confidence in himself and his game.”

Former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski agreed Shelton has the “firepower” to win a major.

“But only if his backhand, court position and key points improve,” Ruseski added.
