NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers won’t be in a hurry to re-sign Trevor Zegras
Host: “So give us a quick introduction to (Christian) Dvorak. What do the Flyers plan on doing with them? Is he a good fit if he’s going to re-sign? Or is that part of it?”
Anthony DiMarco: “Look, I think it’s interesting. You said I talked to a Flyers source earlier this morning. I don’t think the Flyers are looking to sell right now. I haven’t checked the standings.”
Host: “It’s precisely because it doesn’t matter that we are so close.”
DiMarco: “Yeah, the Flyers have been a good team so far this season, not a powerhouse by any means. But I think they’re in the thick of the playoff race. I don’t think they plan on re-signing him anytime soon, but I don’t think there are any plans to trade him, especially given his chemistry with (Trevor) Zegras.
I do think they are willing to extend those deadlines. The number I heard today is two years, about $5 million AAV, and I think they’ll be waiting for that number closer to the offseason, maybe even past the deadline here.
NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers in no rush to re-sign Trevor Zegras
I don’t think it would be the end of the world even if they lost them for nothing. But I think at this point in time, while it’s still early, two years in the $5 million range, if he can keep up, it makes sense for the player because, look, they don’t have a lot of center depth in their roster and pipeline. This is very doubtful.
Jett Luchanko will be working in an NHL center next year. Jack Nesbitt is still a project and a long way from being realized. So it makes sense that Dvorak would be able to keep up with the game, find chemistry with Zegras, play a hybrid center role with Zegras, and potentially keep them with the same cap hit in two years. “
