With more than 300 players participating in Carbon Tracker’s first three seasons, the award-winning app helps players track their tournament travel, understand their emissions and make more sustainable choices on tour.

Mackenzie McDonald leads this year’s leaderboard, followed by Tom Hands, Yanaki Milev, Ryan Peniston and Valentin Royer. Throughout the season, players tracked a total of 2.3 million kilometers, offsetting 585 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The top five will donate $100,000 in prize money to the charity of their choice. McDonald, a two-time Carbon Tracker Award winner (also in 2023), will donate his share to the USTA Foundation’s Mackie McDonald Academy Fund. Launched this year, the Mackie McDonald College Fund is a program that will provide college scholarships to students from under-resourced communities who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, sportsmanship and passion for the game of tennis and support pathway programs for young youth, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Mackenzie McDonald, ATP player” said: “It’s fantastic to win the Carbon Tracking Award for the second time. This program helped me understand the impact from tour to tour, allowed me to make more responsible choices, and showed me that even small changes can have an impact. This donation from the ATP will be used to support My Fund through the USTA Foundation’s programs and initiatives that help open doors of opportunity for young people through the power of tennis, education and mentorship. “

Ino Polo, ATP CEO” said: “As a global sport with over 300 events across the ATP and ATP Challenger Tours, travel is the number one environmental challenge we face. Carbon Tracker measures our impact with real numbers and helps us take the necessary steps to tackle the problem. Thanks to every competitor, especially Mackenzie McDonald for taking the lead this season. “

Carbon Tracker 2025 Breakdown

How carbon trackers work

track: Players log their trips to the tournament to calculate and understand their carbon footprint.

offset: Participants can purchase carbon credits through Gold Standard to reduce emissions and support accredited climate and sustainability projects. One credit represents the removal or reduction of one ton of carbon dioxide equivalent from the atmosphere.

compete: Leaderboard points will be awarded for a range of in-app activities, including tournament offsets, tonnage CO2 emissions and taking part in sustainability quizzes, with double points awarded on key environmental days of the year.

Carbon Tracker’s long-term goal is to encourage more sustainable travel choices on Tour. Its dashboard gives players a clear view of their footprint and the impact of different travel options. Aggregated data also helps the ATP monitor key trends across the tour on a season-by-season basis. Carbon Tracker Season 4 will begin in January 2026.
