game review
In the first quarter, each team had a chance to make a power play. The Kings shot nine better than the Kraken, compared to just six for the home team. The score remained neutral after the first inning.
Early in the second quarter, Cody Ceci gave up his seat for tripping Jani Niemann. With one minute left and a substitution, Vince Dunn passed the puck to Jared McCann in center ice. He fired the shot into the corner of the net for his first goal of the night.
After a failed five-on-three attempt, Brandon Montour skated the puck into the Kraken’s zone with the extra-man advantage. Joel Armia immediately forced a turnover after entering the penalty area. He passed a pass to Alex Laferrière in the neutral zone. He skated to the net at breakneck speed with no one guarding him. His shot hit the crossbar and bounced in to tie the game.
The Kraken had a chance to score with eight minutes left in the second quarter. It was unclear whether the puck crossed the goal line and the referee called the play. After an official review, it was determined that the puck did not actually cross the line, and the score remained tied.
Late in the third inning, Rick Evans hit a double minor penalty on Corey Perry’s high stick. Less than 30 seconds into the game, Anze Kopitar passed the puck to Kevin Fiala and skated into the net at great speed. He hit the crossbar to give the Kings their first lead of the game.
With less than a minute left in the game, Anton Forsberg was whistled for tripping Jared McCann. He hit the ice hard, and although he skated off the ice under his own power, he was helped out of the tunnel and did not return to the game. The Kraken won the faceoff on the extra man advantage, with Dunn keeping the puck in the Kraken’s zone. He passed the ball to Elie Tolvanen, who took the shot. Matty Beniers took the lead, tying the game with 26 seconds left when he hit the puck with his stick and fired it into the net.
A minute into extra time, Adrian Kempe came on for a chop on Beniers. Seattle immediately started a 4-on-3 with Tolvanen passing the puck to Dunn in center ice. He ended the Kraken’s six-game losing streak with a game-winning goal.
