“So you always ask, you say, ‘Okay, who’s busy? Which teams are active this week?’ This week, the No. 1 answer is the Devils.

NHL Rumors: Hurricanes, Blackhawks, Bedard

There are a lot of balls in the air. Really look around and see what’s out there. Now, their targets are believed to include two players from Nashville, Steven Stamkos and Ryan O’Reilly, who he has a say in, with Ryan O’Reilly already having a verbal commitment.

But once Vancouver announced they were reopening, the email was sent to the league. I do believe there has been at least one conversation between the Devils and Canucks regarding Quinn Hughes.

I stress that I don’t think there’s anything imminent. I don’t even know how far they’ve gone, but I do believe the conversation is about where things are and where they might be heading.

Now, the Devils should also be mentioned. They are due to injuries and salary cap situations. They have dollars in and dollars out. So if they’re going to bring someone in, they have to remove people. I think that’s why he got so much time with the Devils. A lot happened to them.

Ron McLean: “Elliott, you have nothing in New Jersey, what will happen if Quinn Hughes comes back…”

Friedman: “No, no.”

McLean: “…Where to leave.”

Friedman: “No, no.”

McLean: “Didn’t want to go there at all, really.”

Friedman: “No. That’s why you bear half the blame.”

McLean: “That’s right.”

Edmonton Oilers have spoken to Pittsburgh Penguins about Tristan Jarry

sports network: Elliott Friedman headlines Saturday’s coverage of the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins and goaltender Tristan Jarry. The Penguins don’t want to keep salary. The Oilers may want to keep Stuart Skinner.

Ron McLean: “Okay. Edmonton, goalie.”

Friedman: “Look, there’s been a lot of noise surrounding Tristan Jarry in the last 24 to 48 hours. So I spent some time going down the rabbit hole trying to figure out what’s going on here.

I do think Edmonton has legitimate interest in Jarry, but I think that’s extremely complicated and probably impossible. Mainly because Pittsburgh doesn’t have one yet and has said it won’t keep it. He still has two years and $5.375 million on his contract, but the Penguins are unwilling to stay.

Now, for those Oilers fans out there, you know what that means, that might not be possible because Edmonton has to do some roster surgery to get it done. And now, with their own injuries and salary cap situation, they’re really in trouble. So like I said, I believe there’s interest in Jarry, I just don’t know if it’s possible.

NHL Rumors: Will New York Rangers and Artemi Panarin’s tenure be an issue?

I don’t believe this is one of the possible reasons because I don’t think this is a Skinner vs. Jarry situation. I believe for the Oilers, if they can do that, what they want to do is pair Skinner with Jarry.

Again, there’s interest, but I don’t know, and I don’t believe it’s possible. “
