Steve Kouleas: With Dave Pagnotta, Sirius XM Insider. Quinn Hughes, what are the realistic implications for the future in the short, medium and I think long term? Is anyone actively kicking the tires right now?
NHL Rumors: Quinn Hughes in no rush to make decision on his future
Dave Pannotta: I would be very surprised to see anything happen midway through the season involving Quinn Hughes. If anything, it’s the timing if he ends up being moved. I suspect this is more likely to happen in the summer or closer to the draft. I don’t think the Canucks have much of an appetite, do you?
Yes, teams have called. They check just to know the status. But he effectively controls his own destiny as he has one year left on his contract before he becomes UFA eligible. I don’t think the Canucks want to go down that path right now. Yes, there are obviously reports that other teams are checking in and people are trying to connect the dots with other teams. The last week or so has been Detroit.
But I don’t see that happening right now unless they get blown completely out of left field and get blown out of the water with a crazy offer that’s too good to pass up and I just don’t expect that to happen this season.
But with all the activity surrounding the Canucks, it’s still going to be a topic of at least a little discussion as they go through and try to move other assets right now. “
NHL Rumors: Quinn Hughes situation could get interesting during Olympics
NHLRumors.com NOTE: As previously reported throughout the summer and into the season, Quinn Hughes is in no rush to decide his fate in Vancouver. While president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford added fuel to the fire with his comments about Quinn Hughes wanting to play with his brothers, the Canucks’ season will determine a lot for big brother Hughes.
Not to mention, Quinn Hughes has said he’s committed to the Vancouver Canucks and everyone will know his decision on July 1, 2026, when he becomes eligible for an extension. Everyone has linked him to the New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers, but how could they want to overpay without a guaranteed extension?
Quinn Hughes once again holds all the cards.
