NHL Rumors: Olympics, Milan Lucic, Dallas Stars and salary retention

Olympic venue progress report released today

TSN: If the Olympic venues are unsafe, incomplete and do not meet NHL standards, the NHL will not participate. Darren Dreger said it is expected to be completed in time, but there are some concerns.

TSN: Dregers said one of the arenas will be tested next week, with a focus on testing in January. The NHL and NHLPA will hold a Zoom call on Friday for a progress report.

Would Milan Lucic want to play overseas or find a different role in hockey?

TSN: Milan Lucic, who was released from the St. Louis Blues’ AHL tryout last week, is considering his future, at least in North America, according to Darren Dreger. He has attracted some interest overseas. He received an offer from a team in Scotland. If Lucic wants to continue playing overseas, or find another role closer to home, he will need to step aside.

NHL injuries: Bruins, Avs, Wild, Senators, Flyers, Penguins, Maple Leafs, Canucks and more

How aggressive the Dallas Stars can be will depend on Tyler Seguin’s schedule

TSN: Chris Johnston said the Dallas Stars could be more aggressive at the trade deadline with forward Tyler Seguin dealing with an ACL injury. They’re waiting for an exact timeline before they know how much cap space they’ll have to use.

“Sure, they have a win now, but with Seguin’s ACL injury, when they get an accurate timeline, they’ll know if they can get $4 million in extra space or if Seguin doesn’t come back at all this year, they can spend close to $10 million.”

If you hope to keep some paycheck, you may want to take action sooner rather than later

TSN: Darren Dreger reminds us that with two roster freezes this year — the holidays (Dec. 19-28 and the Olympic trade freeze (Feb. 4-22)) — along with a compressed schedule, cap situation, trades won’t be easy.

NHL Rumors: Will there be another Alexander-Kerr type trade this season?

“Despite the intense scrutiny, some believe we may still see double wage retention, but in order for that to work because it’s very complex, if you want to retain wages, the first deal will most likely have to happen between now and December 19, so there’s a lot going on.”
