Anastasia Potapova switches from Russia to Austria

Anastasia Potapova changed her nationality from Russian to Austrian after her citizenship application was accepted.
Russia has been banned from team competition since its invasion of Ukraine, and Potapova was unable to compete in the Billie Jean Gold Cup.
The 24-year-old represented Russia in the tournament in 2018 and 2019 and will be eligible to represent Austria next year.
“I am happy to report that my application for citizenship has been accepted by the Austrian government,” Potapova wrote on Instagram.
“Austria is a place I love, it’s very welcoming and makes me feel at home. I love being in Vienna [Vienna] And looking forward to building my second home there.
“As part of this, I am proud to announce that I will be representing my new home country of Austria in my professional tennis career starting in 2026.”
