Edmonton Oilers won’t panic looking for goalie

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said on Hockey Night in Canada that the Edmonton Oilers will continue to wait and find the right goaltender for them. The Oilers are not going to make a panic move.

Ron McLean: “They were preparing interviews for Moncton, Canada, and Scotiabank Hockey Day. Calvin Pickard is from there. So Kyle interviewed Calvin about his first seven years in Moncton and getting into his start in Tampa at the end of the road trip and how it was made or lost. He was very honest and vulnerable.
NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers woes continue, areas of need expanding
Such was the case with Edmonton’s goaltenders that both became crosshairs. Stuart Skinner had clearly had a long afternoon. This was before. But is Edmonton still scared of Stuart Skinner? “
Elliot Friedman: “Overall, I still think that one game might not change a lot of people’s opinions, but it at least softens the rhetoric for a few hours. The thing is, when they got beat up by Dallas this week, I think a lot of people, including ourselves, were thinking, maybe it’s time, Ron, maybe it’s time for them to make a change for themselves, for Skinner, for everybody, and they just take a break and they move on.”
There are a few things. First, Skinner hasn’t asked out yet. But that didn’t happen. I think a few people are wondering if that’s going to happen this week. But it didn’t happen. Second, he signed autographs that night. Like, I have to tell you, if it were me at this point, I would be in the witness protection program. Skinner respected him enough that he did it.
Third, the Oilers have made enough calls that when you’re having a bad week, teams are going to call you. Teams that have extra goalies or goaltenders willing to move, like Columbus, Buffalo, Pittsburgh.
NHL Rumors: Tristan Jarry available, but Edmonton Oilers may have injury issues
And what I can see is that Edmonton’s position hasn’t changed at all. They don’t do it just for the sake of doing it. They won’t do what they consider to be a lateral move. They would rather take no action than make what they think is a bad move, or a panic move, or a move just for the sake of it. So I guess that’s a long way to say it, I don’t believe there’s been any change in the Oilers’ philosophy.
Still, after this week’s game in Dallas, many of us are wondering if that will happen. “
