game review
The Senators outscored the Stars 7-5 after a quiet opening period, but went into halftime tied.
In his 100th NHL game, Bourque opened the scoring when he redirected a spot-up shot from Ilya Lyubushkin at 1:28 of midfield.
Sanderson tied the game on a wrist shot from the left faceoff spot through DeSmith’s five at 8:36.
Robertson restored the Stars’ one-goal lead 76 seconds later with his 16th goal of the season. The Senators turned the puck over along the right board in the defensive zone and Robertson took the puck, walked right from the blue line to the left faceoff circle and fired a wrist shot over Ullmark’s left shoulder.
Johnston scored his first goal of the night at 15:33 to give the Stars a 3-1 lead. Mikko Rantanen picked up his own rebound from behind the Ottawa net and fired a beautiful backhand pass to Johnston on the right side of the penalty area. Johnston’s shot bounced off Ullmark’s glove and into the net.
No. 53 finished his second race of the night in 2 minutes and 52 seconds. Rantanen fired the puck toward the net, and Johnston had a backhand, forehand, and under Ullmark’s pads.
At 7 minutes and 24 seconds into the game, Rantanen once again assisted Benn with a backdoor catch, extending Dallas’ lead to 5-1.
Johnston completed his hat trick with another power-play goal at 15:41. Hintz delivered a perfect pass in the low post to Johnston, who quickly shot over Ullmark’s glove for his 16th goal of the season.
The Stars outshot the Senators 26-16 and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Senators went 0-for-3 with their personnel advantage.
