NHL Rumors: Chicago Blackhawks and Connor Bedard
Ron McLean: “Laurent Brossoit.”
Elliotte Friedman: “Yeah, so Laurent Brossoit is coming back. He’s going to practice with the American Hockey League next week. He’s a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. He hasn’t played in a game in a year and a half. He was injured in the 2024 playoffs and hasn’t played in a game since.
But the Blackhawks have allowed teams to talk to him, so you can get a sense of what’s going on with him, what exactly this surgery is, what the recovery process is. The Blackhawks really don’t have room for him.
Now, he has a salary cap hit of $3.3 million, but not everyone can accept that. So, there may be some work to do here, but he will be monitored very closely and the Blackhawks have allowed people to talk to him. “
Remember, Laurent Brossoit signed a two-year contract with the Blackhawks through the summer of 2024. However, before playing a game for Chicago, Brossoit underwent not one, but two surgeries. First, he underwent meniscus surgery, which forced him to miss the entire 2024-25 season. Brossoit underwent hip surgery last September.
NHL Rumors: What will Connor Bedard and Leo Karlsson’s contracts look like?
The Blackhawks hoped to use Brosoit as their player to pair with Arvid Soderblom, but ended up trading for Spencer Knight of the Florida Panthers. It was a smart decision, as the Eagles signed him to a three-year extension worth $17.5 million with an AAV of $5.83 million. The investment has paid off.
Having a goalie who can play 25 or so games a season will help any team in the league. He has a career save percentage of 0.911 and a goals against average of 2.64. In his final season with the Winnipeg Jets, who went 23-24, he appeared in 23 games, posting a 15-5-2 record, a 2.00 GAA and a .927 save percentage.
Laurent Brossoit could be an excellent addition for a team in need of goaltending help.
