Royals, Jonathan Indian avoid arbitration

Royals sign infielder Jonathan India He will sign a one-year, $8MM contract next season, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. India was widely viewed as an under-the-hood prospect after a poor first season in Kansas City, but he will return and hope to bounce back in 2026. He will become a free agent next offseason.

The Indians, who turns 29 next month, posted career-worst results in most categories in his first season as a Royal. The former NL Rookie of the Year was traded to Kansas City along with Joey Wimmer, and right-hander Brady Singer returned to Cincinnati. India batted .233, had a .323 on-base percentage, a .346 slugging percentage, nine home runs and zero stolen bases (four of those attempts were career lows) despite his 136 games and 567 at-bats being his third-highest total in five seasons.

There will be more to come.
