Cristian Garin won the Uruguay Open in Montevideo on Sunday to join a six-way tie for a season-leading four Challenger titles.
The former No. 17 defeated Peru’s Ignacio Busse 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-2 in the clay court final to return to the top 100 for the first time in 18 months. If Booth wins, he will enter the top 100 of the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time.
But the 29-year-old Garlin dashed Booth’s hopes and captured his eighth Contenders title. His first three trophies this year were won in Mauthausen, Oeiras and his hometown of Antofagasta.
“Proud of my efforts and already looking forward to what’s next,” Garin wrote in an Instagram post, looking back on his 2025 season. “Thank you to everyone who supported me. See you in ’26.”
Garin, seeded fifth in Montevideo, has bounced back from a set loss in his final three matches of the week. After falling to No. 214 in the world rankings in April, Garin is now in a good position to enter the main draw of the Australian Open.
2025 Challenger Singles Title Leaders
Garin wasn’t the only top-25 player to win on the Challenger Tour this week. Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff lifted his seventh trophy in this category by winning the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes All-Around Open in Lyon.
Straff, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 21 in June 2023, defeated British qualifier Liam Brody 6-4, 6-4 in the championship match.

Kozlov claimed his first title since 2021 at the same event
American Stefan Kozlov won the Paine Schwartz Partners Challenger to win his first Challenger title in four years, the same event he won in 2021. The 27-year-old saved a match point in the quarterfinals against Darwin Blanch and rode that momentum into the finals, defeating former Arizona State standout Murphy Cassone 7-6(3), 7-5.
Glinka, 25, becomes third Estonian Challenger champion
Daniil Glinka became the third Estonian to win the Challenger title (Mark Lajal, Jurgen Zopp), his first title at the Challenger Banque Nationale de Drummondville. The 25-year-old left-hander defeated Canadian wildcard Duncan Chan 6-4, 6-2 in the final to rise to a career-high No. 191 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
Watanuki wins Kobe Challenge title for third time
Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki had an unforgettable week at the Kobe Hyogo Noah Challenge as the home favorite won the event for the third time. After lifting trophies in 2019 and 2022, Watanuki found his groove and returned to the winner’s circle. The 27-year-old defeated Elias Immel 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the championship match.
Bolt starts Australia tour with home win
Three weeks of Australian hard-court action kicks off at the QTC Tennis International in Brisbane, with home hopeful Alex Bolt charging all the way to the title. Bolt won his first Challenger title since June 2021 without dropping a set in five matches. The southpaw defeated Wu Tonglin 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
