Competing with Portuguese newcomers on the course – Golf News

Have a great golf trip and golf experience. Greg Evans’ recent trip with Golfkings through Portugal’s Alentejo and Lisbon regions fell squarely into the latter category: five days of world-class courses, prime coastline and laid-back luxury.
The flight from Gatwick to Lisbon started easily in the late afternoon. Less than two hours after landing, we arrived at the chic seaside town Compotacheck-in is located at pestana comportaan ideal base for groups of golf enthusiasts.
Day 2: Torre and Pinerinho
Our first day started with a sunrise drive to the brand new Torre Golf Coursedesigned by Spanish legend Sergio Garcia. Although it only opened in October, it already has a modern classic feel, a perfect blend of rolling parkland and open countryside, dotted with mature trees. Six tee boxes ensure accessibility, but don’t be fooled: its wide fairways and strategic tee shots require forethought and precision.
The 9th hole is Torre’s signature hole, flowing gracefully through the valley and a hole you’ll remember long after you leave the green.
After lunch, we went to Unique Pinerinho Golf Coursewe were the only players on the court. Designer: Rocky RockmoreIts fairways wind through umbrella pines and rough areas filled with wildflowers. The course blends challenge with serenity, with a focus on sustainability – limited chemical use, lush native grasses and a deep respect for the land.
An evening in Comporta is spent exactly as it should be: tasting local wine and dining at one of the town’s casual restaurants.

Day 3: Dunas – a modern masterpiece
Just when we thought this trip couldn’t get any better, Dunas Golf Club Exceeded all expectations. At dawn, the course sparkles in the morning light, a dramatic layout carved from natural sand dunes. Dunas demands creativity as well as control, and the deep bunkers live up to their reputation. Every hole can achieve “signature” status here; it’s a visual and golfing treat.
“If you don’t like this course, you don’t like golf,” someone said around the turn. No one disagrees.
