The Toronto Maple Leafs made more roster changes. The first step is to claim Edmonton Oilers defenseman Troy Scheer off waivers.

In response, they placed Anthony Stolarz on injury reversal (IR) retroactive to November 11th. That was against the Boston Bruins when he was first injured.

The main message in these roster changes is Scheer’s request for waivers. As of now, they are without Chris Tanev and have drafted Dakota Melmis and Phillip Myers. Now, they’ve added a ninth NHL defenseman to their roster.

Some hockey experts will say it’s good that they are adding another NHL defenseman to their roster. However, this usually only matters when a team makes the playoffs. Also, the Maple Leafs are closer to the bottom of the conference and division now than to the top, so, it’s an interesting move.

Scheer, 31, has played in six games for the Oilers but has yet to score a point. During his career, he scored 117 points, 95 of which came from assists in 556 career games. He has experience playing for Brad Trelive, having played 20 games for the club in the 2022-23 season.

It will be interesting to see if this means Tanev could be out for longer and they look to get some insurance on the blue line.
