76ers’ Jared McCain to be sent to G League to ‘get playing time and continue to adapt’

Through the first 11 games of the 2025-26 season, the 76ers are 7-4. The team narrowly defeated the Boston Celtics 102-100 on Tuesday night.

Philadelphia has Wednesday and Thursday off before traveling to the Pistons on Friday. Before that game, the 76ers announced roster changes. Sophomore guard Jared McCain will be sent down to the G-League. He struggled early in the 2025-26 season with a UCL tear in his shooting hand. The team believes a few games against the Delaware Blue Jackets is just what McCain needs.

The 76ers selected Jared McCain from Duke University with the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 21-year-old played in 23 games and made eight starts in his first season with Philadelphia. Unfortunately, McCain missed the final 59 games with a torn meniscus. On top of that, Jared McCain suffered a UCL tear in his shooting hand this offseason. This forced McCain to miss the first six games of the 2025-26 season.

Jared McCain has yet to score in three games for the Sixers this year. He played a total of 31 minutes for Philadelphia. On Thursday, NBA insider Adam Aaronson reported that McCain will be sent down to the G League. McCain will play for the Delaware Blue Jackets on Thursday and Saturday. Aaronson explained that this was “so he could get playing time and continue to adapt.”

Jared McCain is coming off two injuries and will need extra time to recover. The second-year pro wears a bulky brace on his left knee and has been limited in his playing time. With the Blue Coats, McCain will have a chance to play more minutes. He needs to get his feeling back through game action.

The Sixers have young talent on their roster that they can build around for the future. Jared McCain is one of them. Although McCain’s performance with the 76ers was limited due to injury, he still showed talent. As a rookie, he scored more than 20 points in eight of 23 games. That included a career-high 34 points. When Jared McCain is fully healthy, he will be a key addition to head coach Nick Nurse’s rotation.
