Work summary
The Pittsburgh Pirates Strategy Team exists to provide MLB coaching staffs with the information and tools they need to make elite decisions during games. The group’s analysts transform information into clear, actionable plans that support day-to-day competition and long-term player growth.
The Baseball Strategy Team will consider applicants at the Analyst and Senior Analyst levels. In this position, you will work alongside Major League Baseball coaches and staff to help translate information into on-field impact. Your job will include elements such as game preparation, in-game strategy support, post-game reviews, skills development, and ongoing tool or process improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Work with MLB coaches to identify and create competitive advantages.
- Transform data, video and player information into clear, usable insights that impact game decisions.
- Build and maintain workflows, tools and processes that streamline information delivery.
- Collaborate across departments, including R&D and player development, to connect insights from multiple sources.
- Communicate findings clearly and effectively, tailoring messages to a variety of audiences.
qualifications
Required:
- Authorized to work legally in the United States.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
- Strong knowledge of modern baseball research and technology.
- Programming language skills:
- General programming (Python or R)
- Relational database (SQL)
- Ability and desire to learn other programming languages as needed.
expect:
- Software development experience (Javascript or Typescript)
- Experience using Javascript libraries such as d3.js to visualize data
- Experience working with coaches, analysts, or player development staff in a high-performance environment.
- Demonstrate baseball or other sports analytics research work product.
