NHL Rumors: Anaheim Ducks vs. Ottawa Senators

Anaheim Ducks be patient with Leo Karlsson and make trade
TSN: The Anaheim Ducks are first in the Pacific Division, and when asked if they would be a buyer heading into trade season, Darren Dreger said “maybe.” Forward Leo Carlsson, who was second on the NHL scoring list Tuesday night, is eligible to sign a new contract but is in no rush to re-sign Carlsson or make a trade.
“So it makes sense that general manager Pat Verbeek would want to lock up that 20-year-old kid. But there’s no rush from a player’s perspective and there’s no rush from the general manager’s office to try to add to what they’re building right now.
They were well aware of their start, but they wanted to take some time to study the second half to see if anything needed to be added. “

Ottawa Senators general manager takes calls to gain leverage moving forward and find new homes for Alex Formenton and Max Gurnett
Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Citizen: Ottawa Senators general manager Steve Staos has been making calls, looking for an impact player. Not an easy thing to do.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to improve our team. Is there anything special? I wouldn’t say that,” Staos said. “As we’ve seen, sometimes it’s not the trade deadline or July 1. You need to continue to have discussions and see if it’s a fit.”
Staios added that almost every team is doing the same thing, trying to get better.
The Senators are trying to trade the rights to Alex Formenton, who was found not guilty of sexual assault. Teams have reached out, but interest is limited. He signed with HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss League during the Christmas holidays. They retain his rights until July 1, 2027, but can waive those rights at any time, making him a UFA.
After signing Laci Thomson in the offseason, goaltender Max Gurnett turned down an offer from the Senators. He was skating near his home in Quebec City. He requested a trade in the offseason. The Senators were looking for a draft pick and the team offered a terrible contract.
NHL Rumors: Will the Ottawa Senators take any action? It’s been a weird year for trading
Bruce Garrioch: When asked if he wanted to comment, Guynett’s agent, Dominic DeBlois, said only that he hoped the matter would be resolved soon.
