Wilder’s Wohlstetter hits big game in 2-0 win over Flames – Hockey Writers – NHL News

The Minnesota Wild host the Calgary Flames on Sunday night, November 9, to begin a five-game homestand. The Wild rejoined the lineup on their recent road trip, getting Mats Zuccarello back in the lineup but still without Zach Bogosian and Nico Sturm. The Flames were without Martin Pospisil and Zayn Parek due to injuries.

Jesper Wallstedt scored for the Wild and Devin Cooley scored for the Flames. The game was scoreless at the start of the first quarter. The Wild took the lead in the second quarter and kept the score until the end, winning 2-0. This brings the Wild’s record to 7-7-3 and the Flames’ record to 4-11-2.

The first period ended scoreless, although both teams had some chances, including a few shots hitting the post. It took until late in the second period to beat a goaltender, and the Wild scored first.

Matt Boldy scored and got assists from Marcus Johansson, who was playing his 1,000th game, and Joel Eriksson Ek to make it 1-0. It was the only goal of the second period and the Wild took the lead heading into the third period.

There was only one goal in the third period, Kirill Kaprizov’s empty-net goal to give the team a 2-0 lead. He secured the victory with assists from Eriksson Ek and Boldy and earned Wohlstetter his first shutout of the season.

The Wild will continue hosting the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, November 11th. The Flames continue their road trip against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
