Novak Djokovic beats Lorenzo Musetti in Athens to claim 101st title

Djokovic is one of only three men to win a century.

The Serbian needs two shots to equal Roger Federer’s 103, while Jimmy Connors tops the list with 109.

The 23-year-old Musetti’s tireless running and accurate serving helped him win the opening set and it looked unlikely that he would add to his tally.

But after resuming the tiebreaker, Djokovic struggled to win, exchanging serves in the 10th and 11th games of the tiebreaker before ending the match with a love save.

“It was an unbelievable fight and I just, I don’t know,” said the top seed, who at 38 years and five months became the oldest tournament winner since Australia’s Ken Rosewall won in Hong Kong in 1977, when he was 43.

“Three hours. [It was] A physically demanding and physically demanding game. Lorenzo played very well. It could be anybody’s game, anybody’s game, so congratulations to him on a great performance and I’m very proud of myself for being able to get through this game. “

It is Djokovic’s second title of 2025, having won on clay in Geneva in May, while Musetti continues to wait for his first title after losing six finals in the past two seasons.

In a double blow, the Italian failed to get the win he needed to reach the ATP Tour Finals in Turin, with Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime claiming the final spot.

Djokovic, meanwhile, has earned his spot and is in a group with world number two Carlos Alcaraz, American Taylor Fritz and Australia’s Alex De Minaur.
