Tony Beasley, Brett Boone expected to leave Rangers coaching staff

Veteran pitching coach Mike Maddux has left the Rangers to become the Angels’ new pitching coach, and now several other Texas staff members are leaving as well. Third base coach Tony Beasley and secondary hitting coach Brett Boone are not expected to return to the team in 2026, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

Replacements could come from within, Grant wrote, with first base coach Corey Ragsdale changing roles to succeed Beasley as third base coach. Justin Wheeler shares hitting coach duties with Boone, but Wheeler will now become the Rangers’ head hitting coach. Grant said in a separate article that the Rangers consider former Astros hitting coach Alex Cintron a “very strong candidate” for the assistant hitting coach position, and it’s unclear whether current assistant hitting coach Seth Conner will go elsewhere or continue in his position.

Beasley is Texans’ longest-tenured employee, being hired as coach back in 2015 and serving in several different roles under various head coaches. One of those roles is to serve as interim captain himself, with Beasley taking over as the Rangers’ head coach for the final 48 games of the 2022 season following the firing of Chris Woodward. Beasley then returned to third base coaching under Bruce Bochy and won a World Series ring with the club in 2023.

According to Grant, Beasley is expected to look for a job with another team. It’s unclear whether Boone will continue his coaching career or if he will return to retirement and pursue a career in podcasting. Boone made it clear when he was hired in May that he was keen to work with his former manager and old friend Boch, so Boone may now be leaving as Boch will no longer be the Rangers captain.

Although new head coach Skip Shoemaker has been an advisor to the Rangers front office for the past year, it’s no surprise that he wants to make some changes and leave his own mark on the coaching staff. In addition to Beasley, Boone and Maddux, receivers coach Bobby Wilson announced last month that he would also be leaving after six years with the team.
