Paris Masters: Yannick Sinner beats Felix Auger-Aliassime to win and return to world No. 1

Jannik Sinner defeated Felix Auger-Aliassim to win his first Paris Masters title and regain the world number one spot from rival Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner defeated the Canadian 6-4 7-6 (7-4) to extend his winning streak on indoor hard courts to 26 games, dating back to the 2023 Davis Cup final.

The victory moved the 24-year-old Italian 250 points ahead of Alcaraz ahead of the season-ending ATP Finals on November 9.

Sinner’s victory ensures that the year-end battle for world number one will go into the final event of the season – a fitting end to a year in which his rivalry with Alcaraz has reached its peak.

The pair have won the last eight majors and are on a different level than the rest of the men’s tour.

They were so dominant that the gap between second-placed Alkaraz and Alexander Zverev (5,690) was greater than the third-placed German’s total points total (5,560).

Sinner, who will have more points than Alcaraz to defend in the finals after winning the title last year, said: “It’s not only in my hands but I’m certainly happy. [to return to number one].

“My goal is to work hard day in and day out to maximize my potential and I’ve done that.

“Now we recharge and want to be as ready as possible for Turin.”
