Taylor Fritz maintained his lead among Nitto ATP Finals contenders with a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Australian Aleksandar Vukic at the Rolex Paris Masters on Tuesday.

Fellow Turin contenders Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev also all won on Tuesday, with Fritz ensuring he retains his fifth spot heading into the PIF ATP Live event in Turin.

The fourth-seeded American, who lost to Jannik Sinner in last year’s season finale, hit 12 aces and 10 forehand winners to claim his 52nd win of the season.

“It was a tough game,” Fritz said. “I thought he served really well in the first set. I looked at the percentage after the set. I was curious. It was 72 percent. But that was after the tiebreak. I think, up until that point, he had missed three first serves in the tiebreak.

“He hit the target probably 80 percent of the time on his first serve. His first serve was really good. So, I held serve well and had a nice tiebreak, and then I found the break point in the second set.”

The 2024 US Open finalists await the winner of the third round between 13th seed Alexander Bublik and Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

“It’s going to be a very tricky game no matter what,” Fritz said. “I would say both of them have a lot of shots that make you uncomfortable, especially Mutai, but Bublik as well, lobs. It’s a lot of crazy stuff. So, I have to be mentally prepared for that game.”
