Wrexham Open champion Xu Mimi hopes to become world number one

The Wrexham double represented a “complete moment” in Xu’s young career.
“I remember winning my first game at Wrexham in the Welsh Championship when I was eight and under and yesterday my biggest win, it means a lot to me to be honest,” she said.
Xu’s WTA singles ranking last week was 309, and will undoubtedly rise to a career high after the weekend.
“If I’m completely honest, I’m not paying too much attention to the rankings, but I felt like I performed really well last week and played every game. I’m really happy with the results.”
Xu will be heading to Glasgow this week to race W75 and she won’t be resting.
Now that she is 18, there is no longer a limit to the number of tournaments she can participate in.
“I really love this sport and I’m really lucky that this is my job now and it’s great that I get to do this,” Xu added.
