The Hurricanes started scoring just over four minutes into the first period, with Jackson Blake scoring his second goal of the season. Logan Stankoven blocked the faceoff and Blake grabbed the loose puck. His quick hands fooled Jake Oettinger, giving the Hurricanes an early 1-0 lead. Rookie Bradley Nadeau had a chance to score his first NHL goal after being called up on Friday, October 24, but the ball hit the crossbar instead. He was placed in the first lineup, which featured five forwards. Very rare for a Rod Brind’Amour team.

After the Hurricanes scored two points in the first quarter, the Stars responded with two points at midfield. Miro Heiskanen’s cross ball looped around Ehlers’ stick and into the net past Brandon Bussi. Those were two goals on this road trip due to friendly fire. The second goal came from Sam Steel, who redirected Thomas Harley’s shot near the blue line on a power play. Less than 6 minutes into the second quarter, Busey’s screen and redirection made the score 2-2. Both goals were beyond Busey’s control. After 40 minutes, the Stars led 22-19.

Just like his first goal, his pass to Jason Robertson bounced off Mike Reilly’s glove into the back of the net, giving the Stars a 3-2 lead. The Hurricanes eventually had a couple of chances but failed to convert.

The Stars went on a 0-3-1 run and won a bleeding victory. As for the Hurricanes, they will end their six-game road trip with a record of 4 wins, 2 draws and 0 losses, and are currently at 6 wins, 2 draws and 0 losses eight games into the season. It was an impressive road trip while losing multiple players in two weeks and relying on multiple call-ups from the Chicago Wolves.
