Dave Pannotta: “Well, listen, obviously there’s a mutual interest on both sides to try to get something done here. A lot of it, I think, has to do with the deadline. Tom Fitzgerald, their general manager, emphasized that when we spoke to them on Saturday, and he kept saying that both Jacob and his wife, Amanda, wanted them to continue to be part of the family. There’s no question that they want to preserve that. They want to maintain that.” It.
He seemed confident they would get something done. Obviously it’s just a matter of time and when can that happen now because he’s injured and he’s just getting back on the ice skating and they want him to heal up and then get back into some discussions. Mikhail Yegorov played at Boston College and was still a few years away from playing in the NHL. Allen just signed a five-year, $1.8 million per season contract.
Reports say the Devils initially offered Markstrom and his staff a four-year, $5 million per season contract. However, with Markstrom’s injury history, the Devils and Tom Fitzgerald want to make sure they’re in the right spot on an aging contract. However, both sides want this to happen.
