Sidney Crosby passes Mario Lemieux as all-time leading scorer in Penguins history – The Hockey Writers – Pittsburgh Penguins

e Another game in the book, and the conversation once again revolves around Sidney Crosby and his accomplishments in the game of hockey. Crosby scored his fourth goal of the season late in the second period in a 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night. With this goal, he surpassed Mario Lemieux and entered the Pittsburgh Penguins’ regular season and playoff scoring list.
This goal gave the Penguins a 3-1 lead at the time. This was Crosby’s 1,896th career point in the regular season and playoffs combined, surpassing Lemieux (1,895 points) to become the team’s all-time leading scorer. It’s also his eighth point in seven games this season, meaning he’s on his way to another points-per-game season — though there’s still a lot of hockey to do.
As for surpassing the legendary Lemieux, Crosby continues to pour in humility after setting a franchise mark.
“I played another 500 games,” he said after the record-breaking night. “It means I’ve been around a long time and numbers are numbers. But the memories and everything over the past 21 years have been very special, so I’m grateful.”
Crosby later praised the incredible teammates he has had over the years, noting that it took a lot of hard work to be able to play and be productive during his more than 21 seasons in the NHL.
“So, yeah, I don’t know if I can put into words what that means, but it means a lot,” Crosby said as he passed Lemieux.

Now that Crosby has set the franchise’s all-time scoring record, he will chase more big-name players on the NHL’s all-time regular season roster as the 2025-26 season continues. His next stop on that list is eighth spot, currently occupied by Lemieux (1,723), with Crosby just 28 points behind him and tied with him on the NHL roster.
He’s just five points away from becoming the ninth player in NHL history to reach 1,700 career points – a feat that could be accomplished next week.
