Second seed Camila Rosatello of Italy was knocked out by Katarina Kuzmova of Slovakia in her opening match at the Wrexham Open.
Rosatello dropped the first set but rallied in the tie-break to win the second, forcing the match into a decider.
However, the 30-year-old was broken by Kuzmova early in the final and lost 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (4-7) 6-4.
There is no such problem for fourth-seeded Kathinka von Deichmann of Liechtenstein and fifth-seeded Raluca Georgiana Serban of Cyprus.
However, Serbia was forced to take the hard way after losing the first set against Great Britain’s Rana Akwa Stoiber.
