The 29-year-old Bolt was defeated by the 23-year-old German 6-2 6-1 in just one hour and 14 minutes.
She is the only British player to enter the main draw after Emma Raducanu’s season ended prematurely due to illness.
The Englishman won only 50% of the points on his first serve and was broken five times by Rice.
This latest defeat ends a disappointing run of form that has seen the former world number 29 fail to advance past the second round since the Nottingham Open in June.
Five days ago, the Briton lost in straight sets to world number 51 Sorana Sistia in the second round of the Japan Open.
