Mammoths beat Bruins with one-goal lead in final seconds – Hockey Writers – NHL News

The Boston Bruins wrap up a three-game West Coast road trip in Salt Lake City on Sunday night with a game against the Utah Mammoths at Delta Center.
In the two intercontinental matches between the two teams last season, a total of four goals were scored in the two games, and each game resulted in a victory.

A heavyweight battle between Liam O’Brien and Mark Kastelic ignited the crowd just four minutes into the fight, with the scoring starting shortly after.
The Mammoths scored a strange goal on the ensuing power play shortly after the Bruins’ Elias Lindholm entered the penalty area for a hook shot. Nick Schmaltz sliced the puck off Logan Cooley’s back and the puck fell over the shoulder of Joonas Korpisalo.
David Pastrnak broke the deadlock for the Bruins 10 minutes later, scoring the team’s first man advantage of the game. It was the only goal of the first period and they went into the first intermission tied.
Just over five minutes into the second period, a back-and-forth exchange between Marat Khusnutdinov and Pastrnak gave the Bruins the lead, with the latter scoring his second goal of the game.
After the final buzzer, the remainder of the second quarter was filled with physical confrontations. Charlie McAvoy buried the Mammoths forward into the end wall to defend his goalie, leading to another scrum minutes later, with Nikita Zadorov and Brandon Tanev heading into the box to offset the roughing penalty.
In the next two minutes of four-on-four hockey, Nick Schmaltz came around the penalty area and found Mammoth captain Clayton Keller standing in the doorway, catching the ball and scoring, tying the game again. It was Schmalz’s second point of the game and his sixth after scoring hat tricks in the past two games.
After each scoring a goal in the second period, the Mammoths and Bruins were tied again heading into the final period.
Utah then regained the lead when JJ Peterka fed Dylan Guenther a one-timer in the circle midway through the final quarter.
The Mammoths held a 3-2 lead over the final 10 minutes and held off the Bruins’ final push with the net empty.
The Mammoths look to extend their winning streak to four games on Tuesday against the Colorado Avalanche, while the Bruins head home before taking on the Florida Panthers that day.
