Tommy Fleetwood’s latest win brings 1 special bonus

Is there anyone better than Tommy Fleetwood right now? One of the most lovable golfers on the planet suddenly transformed into a world-class golfer, winning tournaments and winning Ryder Cups.
On Sunday, he added another trophy, winning the DP World Indian Championship at the Delhi Golf Club in New Delhi, India. This is Fleetwood’s eighth career DP World Tour title, adding to his success over the past few months.
In August, he won the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup – including a $10 million bonus – easing the pain of a series of close calls and finally shedding the tag as the best player on the PGA Tour who never won. A month later, he scored a team-high four points at the Ryder Cup, helping Europe win a rare away game.
“I think everybody needs something to push them or motivate them,” Fleetwood said Sunday. “I’m always aiming for the best and a lot of times things don’t go my way but the last two games I’ve been in contention so I won so maybe things are starting to even out a little bit.”
This week he joins a host of stars including Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland on the DP World Tour in India. Fleetwood maintained the 36-hole lead but was two strokes behind Keita Nakajima entering the final round.
However, in Sunday’s final match, Fleetwood had extra motivation to win – his son Frankie wanted to celebrate with him on the 18th green.
“We were playing golf last week. I mean, honestly, he never shuts up, so there’s always something coming out of his mouth, and he just happened to randomly say, ‘You know what you’ve never done?’ He said, ‘You’ve never won a tournament and I was able to run on the 18th green,'” Fleetwood said. “He just said something offhand. I didn’t actually say anything. I don’t think I said anything to him, but I came back and wrote it down and it was in the back of my mind. I knew something was going to happen when we were playing at home, and obviously I’m lucky enough to have my family traveling with me a lot. But here’s something I wrote down. It’s kind of like this sentence, and it’s: You never win and I run on the green. That’s that quote and that’s my motivation. “
On Sunday, Fleetwood had four consecutive birdies on Nos. 7-10 to move two shots ahead of Nakajima, who had just one birdie on the front nine. When Fleetwood stepped onto the tee of the par-5 18th, his lead was still two shots. After making par, he shot a 65, 7 under par, and ended up with a final score of 22 under, winning by two strokes.
Earlier this week, broadcasts showed Frankie following his father and copying his shots. Frankie waited by the 18th green on Sunday.
“I hope there will be many more opportunities like this,” Fleetwood said. “But all day today, I was just wondering if I could put myself in a position where I could actually achieve that moment. It was just one of those little things that meant a lot to me. It meant a lot to me. That was really cool. That’s what I wanted to do all day long.”
Fleetwood’s eighth DP World Tour victory also extended his season. He has not yet qualified for the two DP World Tour playoffs in November, but his win on Sunday vaulted him from 94th to 25th at the Battle of Dubai, making him eligible for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
“I had a really good year but a few things let me down and my participation in the DP World Tour was one of them,” Fleetwood said. “Just not being where I wanted to be in terms of the money list and stuff and my performance going into this tour bothers me. This win means a lot.”
