Opening Game: NLCS, front office vacancy, Blue Jays

Here are three things MLBTR readers need to pay attention to throughout the day:

1. National League Game 2:

Yesterday, the Dodgers earned a hard-fought victory in Game 1 of the NLCS, Blake Trenin strikeout Blaise Turand In the ninth inning, the bases were loaded to preserve a one-run lead. Now, the Brewers will try to avoid falling into an 0-2 hole before heading to Los Angeles for Game 3, while the Dodgers will try to keep the good times going and extend their lead.

The game is scheduled to take place at 7:08 pm local time, Yoshinobu Yamamoto (2.49 ERA) on opposite bumps Freddy Peralta (2.70 ERA). Yamamoto dominated the Reds in the Wild Card Series with two runs (earned) and nine strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, but he didn’t fare as well against the Phillies in the NLDS as he allowed three runs in four innings. As for Peralta, he made two starts in the NLDS against the Cubs, allowing five runs in 9 2/3 innings. Although he struck out 15 batters, he also hit three home runs.

2. Another manager vacancy:

Yesterday, Padres captain Mike Shildt announced his decision to resign as head coach. That creates another vacancy among Major League Baseball clubs, and San Diego will now join the Giants, Braves, Orioles, Rockies, Angels, Twins and Nationals in the search for a new head coach. Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty Already a candidate in San Diego, he also scouted Baltimore. However, he’s certainly not the only candidate for either role, and with so many openings in the game, it may take the team longer than usual to find the right fit in the market.

3. The Blue Jays are in trouble:

After a stellar performance against the Yankees in the ALDS, the Blue Jays find themselves in a tough spot. right-handed Trey Yesavich Unable to replicate their previous dominance, giving up five runs in four innings, Seattle won 10-3. That leaves Toronto two games behind as they head to the West Coast for the next three games of the series. With the Mariners now enjoying a one-game cushion as they look to lock down a World Series berth at home, the Blue Jays will be looking to wake up on offense and start scoring runs like they did against New York if they represent Canada in the World Series for the first time since 1993. There is no game in the American League today, as both teams travel to Seattle. Will a day off be enough for the Blue Jays to bounce back?
