Jacob Fearnley’s first test at the 2025 BNP Paribas Nordic Open will be trying to complete his Stockholm revenge against Tallon Griekspoor. The Englishman succeeded in his mission on Monday, despite some decisive tie-break drama before then.

Fearnley, ranked 79th in the PIF ATP Rankings, avenged a second-round loss to the Dutchman a year ago by defeating fifth seed Grikspoor 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-6(5) on the first day of the indoor ATP 250 event. Fearnley led 6/2 in the third set tie-break, but dropped four consecutive points, including two on his own serve, to win the match which lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes.

“It was very tough. I thought things were going pretty well until 5/3 when I served and I was a little nervous,” Fearnley said in an on-court interview. “To be fair, Talon worked hard on his game and raised his level when needed. It was just a war until the end. Huge respect to Talon, but happy to get through it.”

The win came despite Fearnley being beaten 32-34 by Grikspur. According to Infosys ATP statistics, the 24-year-old British player’s serve was the basis of his victory, winning 78% (45/58) of his points after his first serve to end the match.

After drawing 1-1 with Grikspur in the Lexus ATP head-to-head series, Fearnley will next prepare for a second-round match against one of the two brothers: home wildcards Mikael Immel and Elias Immel will meet in the first round on Tuesday for the right to play the Scot.

Miomir Kekmanovic ended a four-match losing streak on the ATP Tour by overtaking sixth seed Alexander Muller in the first match of the day in Stockholm. The Serb, ranked 49th in the world, will next face either Tomas Martin Etcheverry or qualifier Mark Lajal.
