Alex de Minaur recorded his 50th Tour victory of the season at the Rolex Shanghai Masters on Wednesday, where he beat Nuno Borges 7-5, 6-2 to his seventh ATP Masters 1,000 quarter.
De Minaur is just the third to reach 50 wins in 2025, joining Carlos Alcaraz (67) and Taylor Fritz (50), with the Australians winning 37 tour games on hard positions. De Minaur is confident in dealing with Borges, winning 19 unmandatory turnovers at the couple’s first Lexus ATP Head2head meeting.
De Minaur’s previous best season of 2024 peaked with 47 wins and two championships, according to Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. The 26-year-old canceled the trophy at the ATP 500 event in Washington in August, where he will chase his second annual champion in Shanghai, next to meet Daniil Medvedev or #NextGenatp American Learner Tien.
“To me, it’s just consistency, and that’s what I’m most proud of,” Demeer said as he won 50 Tour titles. “Every week it’s coming out, it’s an amazing number. I hope more year ends and don’t stay at the age of 50. So far, it’s a successful trip to Asia. I told myself that at the beginning of the week, I told myself that it’s all going to be a huge spiritual effort and I’m so happy to be in the competition.
De Minaur arrived in Shanghai behind the Beijing semi-finals, and his latest match further improved his chances of qualifying for the Nitto ATP finals. The 10-time Tour champion ranked seventh in the PIF ATP live match, with 740 points in 10th Felix Euger-Aliassime, the first player outside of 9th, which was the 9th place injured as No. 9 Jack Draper was injured for the rest of the year.
De Minaur made his debut in the prestigious end-of-year event in 2024 and would be fourth in the live competition if he captures his Virgin Masters 1000 title in Shanghai.
Earlier, Arthur Rinderknech defeated Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 7-6 (5) to reach his Virgin Masters 1000 season. The Frenchman is ranked 43rd in the PIF ATP Live rankings, adding cousin Valentin Vacherot to the past eight. After winning, Rinder Knech wrote a message supporting the qualifying match Vacherot, the first Monegasque player to reach the all-time quarter-finals.
