Game review
The style of the first quarter hockey game is flying high and going back and forth. The Penguins got some opportunities early, and the Rangers got some opportunities too. The Penguins have the best chance, with Ben Kindel sending a beautiful pass from behind the net on Philip Tomasino’s bat. Thomasino failed to complete his chances and Shestkin made a major save. Even though the team won only three of the previous 11 faceoffs, Evgeni Malkin won the victory in the offensive zone’s standoff to the net. Brazzo found the hockey alone and buried the ball into the net with 32 seconds left. At halftime, they led the Rangers 10-7, keeping the lead.
The Rangers had a great chance to equalize the score four minutes after the second quarter. Mika Zibanejad’s goal opened wide, but Ryan Shea blocked the club and stopped the goal. After several ongoing offensive pressure and increased shooting attempts, the Rangers gained momentum. They maintained that momentum and created one opportunity after another from the Penguins’ mistakes. Despite being beaten by a penalty kick at the last moment, Pittsburgh maintained a 1-0 lead to end the second quarter. The Rangers made a fierce attack on Sillovs, turning the shooting advantage into favorable results. The total score of this quarter was 13-7, and the score was 20-16 in 40 minutes.
The third period is roughly the same as the first period. Both teams played the rhythm, but there were some sloppy performances. With Sillovs falling, the Rangers had another great chance to equalize, but luck was not on their side. Facing a large number of ball nets that require shots, Zibanejad’s shot missed the crossbar and landed behind the net, allowing the Penguins to gain possession and break through. With 2 minutes and 23 seconds left, the Rangers replaced Shestkin. The Penguins only took 11 seconds to gain possession, and Brasso played for the second time that night. In the subsequent standoff, Black Lizzot rewrites the score to 3-0 with his own empty goal. The Penguins won 3-0 and beat the Rangers 30-25 in the game.
Both teams will return to the ice rink Thursday night (October 9). The Rangers will face the Buffalo Sabres away. The Penguins head to Long Island to meet the New York Islanders. Both games are scheduled to be held at 7 p.m.
