The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on the afternoon of October 6 (October 6) that they released goalkeeper James Reimer from his Professional Trials (PTO). The news was reportedly hours after they claimed goalkeeper Cayden Primeau had left the waiver.

Reimer, 37, participated in the 2024-25 season with the Buffalo Sabers, where he competed in 24 games. He won ten of them, won 1 closed state and 3.04 target average (GAA), with a saving percentage of .897 (SV%).
Throughout his career, he has played 525 games, won 225 games, released 31 closed games, and released 2.89 GAA for 0.910 SV%.

Reimer played with the Maple Leafs before the 2010-11 season and 2015-16 season before joining the San Jose Sharks. He also spent time with the Florida Panthers, the Carolina Hurricanes, the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks.
According to Darren Dreger, Reimer hopes he gets another chance somewhere in the NHL, but as the season begins tomorrow, the attractions are slim.

Time will tell if he ended up winning the contract elsewhere in the NHL, but for its purpose, he is an unrestricted free agent.
