Professional Scout Analyst Scholarship

Place: Baltimore MD
Towards: Manager, professional reconnaissance

Work Summary:
This person will support the efforts of the Professional Reconnaissance Department by conducting extensive assessments of professional participants in the United States and abroad. Employees will use multiple sources of information, relying heavily on video analytics while working closely with the baseball analytics department. This is a seasonal location in Baltimore, Maryland. While only summer candidates will be considered, candidates that can start in the off-season will be given priority.

Main responsibilities

  • Utilize video, technology and in-person scouting reports from professional participants to enhance the club’s decision-making process.
  • Monitor roster dynamics for other organizations and alliances, maintain prospect lists, depth maps, and position rankings.
  • Distribute the target list (FA, Trade, Rule 5, International Professional Participants, etc.) to Boy Scouts, coaches and front desk staff and coordinate the responses to recommendations.
  • Surveillance reconnaissance reports for consistency, accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate reconnaissance plans and track the coverage of target players.
  • Troubleshoot technical and equipment issues, provide solutions for video reconnaissance operations, coordinate data sharing agreements and perform other assigned administrative responsibilities.
  • Assist in data analysis, maintenance and collection.
  • Prepare tools, visualizations, and reports to help spread information throughout baseball operations.

qualifications

  • Special knowledge of baseball and sabermetric research and principles.
  • Have experience in player evaluation.
  • High attention to details.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with staff at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, SQL, R and Python.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in the stem field is preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays and travel as needed.

The expected hourly rate for this position is $20 per hour.
