Carlos Alcaraz beats Taylor Fritz to win Japan Open

World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz won Tokyo ATP of the Year Championship 6-4, 6-4, at the Japan Open.

Alcaraz showed no signs of ankle problem after his first round injury, showing up 5-4 and serving in the first set.

Fritz needed to treat on his left thigh twice before returning to the second round, while Alcaraz seized the opportunity to build up pressure.

The Americans were broken twice to trail 4-1, but did provide some resistance in the ending phase, knocking one out, but not enough time to stop the six-time Grand Slam title.

Alcaraz has won three consecutive ATP titles since his match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon in July – the Cincinnati Open, the U.S. Open and the Tokyo Open.

This is Alcaraz’s 67th victory of the season, and he further ended the game in 73 wins in 2024.
