Klay Thompson is confident about the Mavericks’ chances to win – Basketball insider

Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Klay Thompson said the team could compete for the NBA title once Kyrie Irving returns from his torn ACL. Thompson spoke on Monday on Mavericks Media Day, highlighting the impact of Irving’s return.
“It was huge to get Carey back,” Thompson said. “We had a solid core that put him in and gave us a real shot of the championship.”
Irving focuses on recovery and avoids returning dates
Irving, 33, suffered a torn bone in her left knee last March. Last season, he averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. He was a nine-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA Trials, winning the championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
On Media Day, Irving detailed his recovery process but refused to commit to a specific return date.
“I’m figuring out what I can do to push myself where I need it,” Owen said. “I feel like the pace I’m having before I get hurt. My goal is to get back to that level mentally and physically. I don’t want to date there and risk frustration.”
Mavericks face tough Western Conference
Fanduel Sportsbook currently lists No. 14 in Dallas with NBA championship odds 40-1. The Western Conference was filled with contenders, including defending champions Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Forest Walls and Golden State Warriors.
Despite the difficulties, Dallas still has key talents. The roster includes star big guys Anthony Davis, top rookies Cooper Flagg, Thompson, Dereck Lively II and PJ Washington. Once Irving returns, the Mavericks’ roster wins another All-Star player, making them a strong contender in the playoffs.
Seasonal Opening and Prospects
The Mavericks will play against the San Antonio Spurs on October 22. While the championship game is still challenging, the team is moving towards the deep playoffs. With Irving’s ultimate return and a blend of experienced veterans and young talents, Dallas aims to make a statement at the Western Conference.
“We’re ready for this season,” Thompson said. “It’s one game at a time and a detailed introduction. Once Kyrie comes back, we have a chance to compete with anyone.”
