Kevin Durant sees long-term future in Houston – Basketball insider

Durant and the Rockets’ vision
Kevin Durant made it clear that he hoped his work with the Houston Rockets would be more than short-term. Durant said on his 37th birthday, “I do see myself signing a contract. I can’t tell you exactly when it will happen, but I do see it happening.”
The striker is the last year of a $55 million deal and is eligible for a two-year extension of more than $120 million. Despite discussions, no agreement was reached at the beginning of the boot camp. Rockets general manager Rafael Stone declined to comment on the status of the talks.
Contact Udoka Fuel Trade
Durant moved from the Suns to Houston in July with a relationship with coach Ime Udoka. The two worked together during their time at the Nets. “IME has always been one of the people who understand me bringing the table and the mindset.” Durant said. “He always respects that and gives me the space to be mine.”
Although he didn’t expect to leave Phoenix so soon, Durant quickly regarded Houston as a fit. He pointed out the Rockets are full of a long lineup of athletes and said his body type complements the group.
Vanvleet’s new character after injury
Last week, the Rockets lost entry point guard Fred Vanvleet tore the ACL apart. Durant and Udoka both confirmed that Durant will assume some responsibility. At 6-foot-11, Durant’s versatility will help Houston build some of the highest squads in the NBA this season.
Manage wages and expand
The Rockets are balancing multiple negotiations. Tari Easean is talking about the extension, while Jabari Smith Jr. recently signed a five-year, $122 million deal. Adding Durant’s contract to this payroll requires careful planning. Despite this, his presence is expected to enhance the team’s position in the league.
Legacy beyond title
Durant admits that his journey (now his fifth NBA team) includes difficult divisions. However, he defined his legacy in a different way. “It’s always about impacting and building good relationships within the organization.” He said. “Behind the scenes, I have built many good relationships and lifelong friendships with people.”
Finney-Smith’s recovery
The newly signed Dorian Finney-Smith also spoke on Monday about his recovery from an ankle surgery in the offseason. Stone said he could miss the start of the season even though he hasn’t been cleared at the basketball event.
